Hi All,
As you know, we have spent the last couple of days setting up class email accounts so that we can both learn about emailing as well as doing things like blogging with others. We are preparing to blog with Mr. G, an NK parent, an NK coach, and the creator of Edutyping, our new keyboarding on-line program.
Please think about questions that you can post to give Mr. G. feedback on his program since NK is piloting this for him. He is very interested in your feedback so that he can possibly make the program even better. Your honest comments to him are invaluable to him or any programmer designing a program like this one.
I will be setting up a time with him when he will be able to addess any comments, issues, or questions that you post.
Thank you ahead of time for participating in this valuable experience.
Mrs. Murray
Hello to Mrs. Murray and Her DMS Keyboarding Students,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Mr. Gecawich. I own a company called B.E. Publishing, located right here in North Kingstown. I was the lead developer of the software you are using, EduTyping. I look forward to blogging with you through the school year and getting your feedback about EduTyping. Feel free to post comments anytime and I will write back to you.
I also will planning an online meeting with you shortly, as well as paying a personal visit to some of Mrs. Murray's classes.
Looking forward to chatting with you all.
Hello, Mr.G this response is about your program Edutyping. I and many other of my classmates are looking forward to learning more about Edutyping, I personally much rather would use your program than TTL3 Because it is more focused on the typing aspect of the program instead of useless cartoons and noises. I also enjoy the fact that its a bit more challenging than TTL3 with the patterns of keys and use.

Hello, my name is Ashley Leighton and I am a 8th grade student at DMS. How long have you owned B.E Publishing? I really like Edu Typing because you get better practice with typing. I find Edu Typing easier than Type To Learn because it's shorter and it's easily accessed from your home. I really didn't like the animation on Type To Learn because it was very distracting. I like Edu Typing because you can see how fast you can type by the timer. Thank-you for reading my post!
ReplyDeleteFrom,
Ashley Leighton
Dear Mr. Gecawich,
ReplyDeleteThe edutyping and type to learn are two different programs that are both good. Type To Learn is a program mainly for beginner typers with animations. while the program Edutyping is a little more safisticated and better for the typers who have been typing longer and still good for beginning typers. In the Type To Learn program there were animations that got kind of annoying after a while, so that I am happy that there are no animations. The only bad thing that i think is bad is the length of the lessons. In my mind i think that they are too long, but besides that i am good with the rest of the program.
Tim Mohn
Dear Mr. Gecawich,
ReplyDeleteThe edutyping program, in my opinion, is better than the type to learn program that we used in previous years. I like the fact that it does not use animation, but I think that the lessons are a bit too long. I also don't like the fact that the typing stops when you mistype a letter. I think that this program is good for older students while type to learn is more appropriate for younger students, like elementary schoolers and possibly some 6th graders. Overall, I think that the edutyping program is a good way to learn typing skills for most middle schoolers.
Anna Pickard
Dear Mr.Gecawich
ReplyDeleteI really like Edutyping, its way better than type to learned 3. Type to learned I didn't really get how to use it, cause I did come at the end of the year so I didn't really know how to use it. so I like Edutyping better cause its easier to use.
Hi Mr.G,
ReplyDeleteI am really looking forward to meeting you this year in keyboarding. This new software that we are doing this year i enjoy doing it and learning new things. One of the things that i like on EduTyping, is how we get to do the lesson over if we need to keep on the grades. Also something that i don't like is that you, shouldn't get timed on it, so u could have the amount of time that u need to get a good grade instead of trying to type fast and get a decent amount of words wrong.
Dear Mr. Gecawich,
ReplyDeleteI like that it is all on the internet and you don't have to download anything or do anything offline.I think that EduTyping is a pretty good program. I feel like it would be easier to complete if the lessons were a little bit shorter. The lessons overall are easy to understand and they don't have a lot of things that are confusing. It is relatively easy to comprehend what we are supposed to do in this program so you don't get confused as easily. I like how it is straight to the point.
~Sarah Cavaleri
Dear Mr. Gecawich,
ReplyDeleteI have a couple thoughts about EduTyping I would like to share with you. I think that EduTyping is made much better then type to learn.I like that I get to type about things that I am interested in such as Facebook and American Idol. I do have one thing that I don't like about EduTyping and that would be that I hate how I get timed. I am a very good at typing if I don't rush, but EduTyping grades me on my speed which I believe isn't very fare. I believe that I should be graded on how accurate my typing is then my speed.
Thank you,
Anna Hill
Hello Mr. Gecawich. I think EduTyping is totally awesome. Where did you get the idea for this? That was totally original. Thanks for starting it, because it is pretty cool. I think that even though it is super cool, it should have more funniness to it. What I mean by this is that there should be more characters that should make you want to continue this. Some ideas are animations, comic strips, typing recent movie summaries, and such. Thank you for your time.
ReplyDeleteAustin Amos
Dear Mr. Gecawich,
ReplyDeleteI would just like to thank you for this program it has a more lively and productive feel. Edutyping has stories and advise that allows the student to type realistic paragraphs, while connecting and learning for the program, unlike type to learn where you would type random sayings. The one thing I think could be helpful in improving this program is allowing back spacing. I understand the reasons for not allowing it but I also think that allowing a limited amount would allow the students to concentrate while leaning from their mistakes. Other than that I enjoy the program and Thank you for allowing DMS students to test it out and give you an opinion.
Dear Mr. Gecawich,
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to be using EduTyping this year, because it seems much different than Type To Learn 3. It seems like a good program to be using and that it will be able to help us type more proficiently and accurately. The lessons themselves are a little long, but I like that it has different screens for breaks. I also think that it is a lot more appropriate for kids our age. EduTyping seems like a better program than what we have been learning the past two years in keyboarding, and I'm glad we get to test it out.
Madison Smith
Dare Mr. Gecawich,
ReplyDeleteI like EduTyping better then type to learn. I think the lessons are a little to long but I think they teach a lesson very well. I would like so see you at Mrs. Murray class. I also like the time writing tests it lets me see if i am getting better or not.How did u start the program.
Adam Zaroogian
Dear Mr. G,
ReplyDeleteEduTyping is a much better program then type to learn. This is due to the fact that it is just one lesson rather than a list of smaller lessons which take forever to complete. EduTyping is easier, faster, and just plane better. This software should have been used sooner! P.S. the lessons need to be shorten.
From,
Steven Miozzi
Hello Mr.G,
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to blogging with you this year. Also I am excited to be meeting you in keyboarding class when you come to visit. I enjoy the new program you have invented, EduTyping. I like this a lot better than the type to learn we have been doing for the last couple of years. One thing I do not like on this new program is that it is very long and it takes a lot longer to complete one assignment, giving the students more homework to do when we get home. Lastly, I like the fact that the letters turn red when you get a letter wrong. Thank you for your time.
Bailey Taylor
Dear Mr.Gecawich,
ReplyDeleteDo you know how many units are there? Do you know when you coming? How many times are you coming here? Are you going to talk about EduTyping?
I don't like EduTyping because it is way too long.
I like type to learn 3 better.
Joshua
Dear Mr.G, I like that Edutyping is not as child-like as type to learn was. I also like that you can't click back to fix our mistakes so the next line says the same thing so we know better next time. If we can click back then that doesn't really teach us anything. Edutyping really teaches us the technique better than type to learn did. Eduytping is a lot more work and a lot longer like twice as long as type to learn but it teaches you the right way to type. I think that Edutyping should be a little bit shorter because it is too much work for us.
ReplyDeleteDear Mr.G, I like the fact that EduTyping is a program that we are able to do at home and still be able to get credit for.EduTyping is also less childish than type to learn was. EduTyping is giving you many different pages of practice for each lesson that you are focusing on at that time. Also being able to do my typing lessons at home helps me to get ahead and stay up to date on my work that i do not start to slack off. The one thing that i would say to make it better is that i believe the pages should be smaller so then students do not get frustrated with to much work on one page.
ReplyDeleteDear Mr.Gecawich,
ReplyDeleteI like Edutyping, it is a great program that does help students learn the keys better. It is better than the Type to Learn Program as well. The one problem with it is that the lessons are too long. I like how the letters that were typed incorrectly turn red and allow the typer to figure out the mistake he/she made. The other thing that I like is the "My Problem Key" section, it allows a student to practice on the keys they are having trouble with.
Thanks,
Jasnoor Kaur
Hello Mr. G,
ReplyDeleteI prefer EduTyping to TTL3 because EduTyping is very easy to use and well organized. TTL3 focused on too many things other than actual typing and made it difficult to actually learn how to type. By using EduTyping I am learning how to use the certain keys that are too far off of home row to be comfortable. The only thing I don't like about EduTyping is when you miss a letter it stops until you get the next letter right. This really throws me off and ruins my goal for WPM.
From,
David Campanella
Hello, Mr. Gecawich
ReplyDeleteMy name is Christian Habershaw and I find edutyping a very productive website to get my keyboarding work on. It is much better than TTYL3 because it is more organized and a lot more developed website that TTYL3. Even though I really like this website, I think it could use more animations along the sides of the paragraphs that we type. My keyboarding class and I really appreciate you putting this time in the program to keep it running for us and so we can do our work.
Thank You
Dear Mr. G,
ReplyDeleteI think that this new Edutyping program is great, a real improvement over the Type to Learn 3 program. This program has actually made me a better typer. It shows me what I get wrong during the lessons and doesn't let me do the same mistake again. The Edutyping lessons are also a lot shorter than the Type to Learn lessons because the mini-games of Type to Learn are not mandatory in the Edutyping which makes me a lot happier.
Thank You,
Lucas Halkidis
Dear Mr. G,
ReplyDeleteEduTyping is much better than TTL3. I am very happy that you came up with this idea, but I think you could make some improvements. The lessons could be a little shorter, since we're already not completing them for homework. I also think that the lesson topics could be about recent movies, books, internet videos, and other recent topics that interest us teens.
Thank you for taken the time to read this (If you acctually do).
Taylor Masi
Dear Mr. G, I myself prefer Edutyping over TTL3 because the program is very focused on making sure each student learns the correct typing positions. By having this, learning how to type correctly and efficiently is much easier to do. The only thing I would suggest to be changed is that the sheets go back to the previous when you sign out instead of saving your current position. If they did this, it would be much easier to resume where and what students were typing.
ReplyDeleteThank-You for your time
Emily McMillan-Palla
Dear Mr. Gecawich
ReplyDeleteI like Edutyping but i don't like how long it is. Also that it is very cool how we don't have to go back to fix are mistakes because it gets you to learn from them. Also I like how it is not as babyish as type to learn 3 was, so i like Edutyping better.
Thank you for your time,
Justin Slagle
Hello Mr. G.,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Jesse Facey, and I am an 8th grader at DMS. I like EduTyping much better than TTY3. I like that I am not required to do annoying games, and suffer through cheezy animations, in order to complete a lesson. I also like that when I get a letter wrong, it turns red. The only thing I don't like about EduTyping is that I am not allowed to fix my mistakes. Thank you for your time.
Jesse Facey
Dear Mr. G, One thing that I feel is much better on EdyTyping than TTL 3 is that it can be accessed from any computer. This makes it easier in case a student has missed class. Although I feel EduTyping is better than TTL3, a program DMS has used in the past years, one thing I feel could be better is the length of the lesson. The lessons take a fairly long amount of time, and I feel they should be shortened.
ReplyDeleteThank you,
Ally
Dear Mr G,
ReplyDeleteEdutyping much better program than Type To Learn. It is much more serious and allows students to work at home. I personally like Edutyping much more than Type to Learn. It teaches students the correct way to type, and is harder, but challenges the student to type correctly. My only suggestion would be to make the lessons shorter because with all the work, projects, and typing students do for regular homework they may not have the time to finish all of the lessons on time.
-Madison Lambert
Mr. G,
ReplyDeleteHi. I love your program a lot more than TTL3. It is a lot more easy to do and I like to do it a lot more. The only other recommendation is that I think it is a very long lesson. It needs to be like almost cut in half. Thank you for saving us from TTL3. Thank you for making this awesome program!
Riley Mather
Dear Mr. G,
ReplyDeleteI like Edutyping a lot more then TTL3. I think that Edutyping is much more easier then TTL3. Edutyping gives you a chance to understand the keyboard much easier than TTL3 because it lets the person that is typing to allow at least one mistake in a row. Also I like how Edutyping is just one lesson, rather than TTL3 that had so many lessons and games that it took forever just to complete one lesson.
From,
Trevor Huntington
Dear Mr.G, I do like this Edutyping more than TTL3. There are a few dislikes I have about Edu but I think I can work around it. But the biggest concern I have with this is to much pages we have too type to complete a lesson. There are about 300 words on one page and it takes me 6 hours to complete one lesson. Well that is my view on it but I don't know if anyone eltse feels the same way so I am going to suck it up and deal with it. Well thank you again for all your time to look at our responses and I hope you have a peaceful day
ReplyDelete~Corey O'Dell
Dear Mr. G I think that Edutypeing is better then Type To Learn because it can be used at school and home. I also think it is better because there is no animation.
ReplyDeleteRicky
Dear Mr. G,
ReplyDeleteI like Edutyping because it is better than type to learn.plus you don't need a program or disk to practice typing. What I don't like about this program is that the lessons are really really long.It would also be good if you included some sound or some sort animation.
John Starrett
One thing that I do not like much about typing programs is that they do not let you go back to correct your mistakes. As much as it is important to get it right the first time, you may get used to not being able to correct your mistakes. It does not have this affect on me, but it makes me feel helpless. If you could find a way to let us correct our mistakes but record that we did not get it right the first time, and then repeat it again if we do not get it correct the second time. I am not saying that this would help us realize that we need to correct mistakes, But it will help relieve the helplessness caused by not being able to alter you mistakes, as you can on programs like Word. The mistake should effect the accuracy score, but getting it right the second time will not erase that; if incorrect a second time, that will again degrade your accuracy. Also, you should not be able to erase correct letters, and perhaps use arrow keys to correct letters that are farther back in the page, but not the lesson. This may help in some aspects of this education.
ReplyDelete-Evan
Dear Mr.G, I like the Edutyping because it teaches us how to type faster with the long lesson it has. I like how if you do not finish a lesson you can do it for homework. I have several suggestion to tell you. Can you put some animation in the Edutyping. Thanking for making this blog Mr.G.

ReplyDeleteEdutyping is alright, but you can't go back to fix your mstakes.Aside from this its o.k.
thank you for your time,

Dear Mr G.
ReplyDeleteEdutyping is a good website and I really like learning to type off of this website. The only thing about the website that I don't like is the length of the lessons. I think that 10 pages are a little long. aside from that I like the website
sincerely
Johanna Harrison
Dear Mr.G,
ReplyDeleteEdutyping.com is a very useful website. i prefer this over the last typing program we did last year because i can finish my assignments at home. I also like that i can pause, so if i had to do something very important i could pause and go back to it later.
Thank you,
Mickey C.
Edutyping is good, but the lessons are a little long. You should add something that lets you save your progress halfway through a screen. It's a lot better than ttl3, since you can work on it at home.
ReplyDeleteMichael Morisseau
Dear Mr. G,
ReplyDeleteEdutyping is a great program and I like it a lot. The fact that it is online definitely makes it better than Type To Learn, but I feel that there could be some improvement. There isn't really something to get rid of your bad habits for certain numbers and letters. If there was a mini exercise that allowed someone to choose what letter they wanted to practice and had difficulties to improve their efficiency with that letter or number, it would be amazing.
Thank you,
Allyson
Dear Mr. G.,
ReplyDeleteI really like Edutyping. I find that it is a lot easier to type quicker because it doesn't let you go back and fix mistakes. I also like it because it is a lot simpler than the program we used to use. It also doesn't let you go on after a mistake until you get the next letter correct, so we can't slack off and just type randomly. I think it is a really great way to learn how to type quickly with the proper technique. Honestly,I don't think it needs to change at all. The way it works is really good for learning.
-Alexis Gardiner
Dear Mr. G,
ReplyDeleteI find Edutyping a much better and efficient program than Type To Learn. One major part about the program is that it's simple and is mature for our age group, unlike the somewhat childish animations and limited lessons on TTL. It's much less distracting and very easy to get through. I like that each lesson is split into big sections as apposed to short sentence-by-sentence that TTL had previously done. It makes it much quicker and easier to get through lessons, and to maintain a higher Words per Minute average. I also personally favor the Timed Writings, because it allows practice on formal typing, which would help us in finishing school assignments like MLA essays and reports at a much faster pace.
Altogether, I'm very pleased with the Edutyping program. I don't see any evident changes or alterations that should be made. Thank you for your time.
-Alice Rozkov
Dear Mr.G
ReplyDeleteI like edutyping it is a lot better than TTL3. It is easier to type a whole paragraph then to type sentences that people cannot read ahead on. I like it because if you are a fast typist, you do not have to wait for the sentences to show up and because of this, you can get done faster. I also like that you do not need to go back and fix your mistakes you can just keep going and see your mistakes at the end of each paragraph. The only thing I would fix is the length of each lesson because some students don't have enough time to finish in a class period.

Hello Mr. G,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Matthew Sorial, and I think Edutyping is better than TTL3. I think this because in TTL3 I wasn't very fast at typing. So I wouldn't get a good grade in Ms. Murray's class, now, for TTL3 I can type at home! So now my homework is getting done and my grade is going up. I also didn't like the games on TTL3 because they were really hard. In Edutyping there is no games so it can go by much faster.
-Matthew Sorial

ReplyDeleteDear Mr.G,
ReplyDeleteI like Edutyping better than TTL3. A reason I think Edutyping is better is because it is organized so I can see where I am in a lesson, also it shows me my accuracy and my words per minute. Overall I like Edutyping better than TTL3.
Sami LeValley
Dear, Mr. G
ReplyDeleteI think EduTyping is a nice program, but it could be better. It would be better if the course lessons stayed on the same subject. It gets very confusing when I type because it goes from one subject to another with the sentences. I also think it would be better if the program had more games. It gets very boring with such long lessons and I'm finding that I can't remember what I'm learning as well as I did on TTL.
Thank You!
Erin Chille
Dear Mr. G
ReplyDeleteOne thing I really like about this program is that you can pause the program between screens and continue it at home. One thing I do not like about it is that if you pause it in the middle of a screen< then you have to restart the screen.
-Isabel Bowe
Dear Mr. Gecawich
ReplyDeleteHello I am a 8th grade student at Davisville Middle School. I have recently started the Edutyping program and very pleased by it. Since being half way into the program in my opinion I do not like the fact that the lessons are very long. For this reason I do prefer type to learn 3 better. Besides the lessons I very much enjoy the section that shows my problem keys. I gives me a good look on what I am having trouble on. Thank you for your time and good luck with your new program.
-Brittney Leone
Dear Mr. G
ReplyDeleteI really like Edutyping, one thing i really like about it is that you can start over again if you feel you are not doing well. Also I like that you can pause it if you need to take a break. The thing I like the most is that we can do it from home and from school. There is only one thing I do not like about it, it is that the lesson can be very long sometimes. If you made them a little shorter than Edutyping would be even better.
From,
Josh Gray
Dear Mr. G
ReplyDeleteI think that Edutyping is a lot better that Type To Learn. Edutyping is more realistic because you are looking at an entire screen rather than just one sentence at a time. The lessons are rather long. I think it might be a little better if there were a way to save your progress if you don't get to finish a whole screen.
~Kiel Fuller
Dear Mr.G, I like Edutyping better than Type To Learn 3 because I can access it from home so I can finish the work. Another thing I like about Edutyping is you don't have to go back and correct mistakes. One thing I don't like about edutyping is that the lessons are very long.
ReplyDelete-Cam Moniz
Dear Mr G,
ReplyDeleteI find Edutyping better than Type To Learn because it is more mature and it doesn't have any pictures. I also like it because it gives you a whole page of words unlike Type To Learn that only has phrases. Also I like that it doesn't let you get to the next word until you get all of the letters correctly. Also I like that you can do it in school and at home. One thing that I don't like about Edutyping is that it is eight pages long for every essay. But overall it is better than Type To Learn.
Sincerely,
Michael Rodriguez
Dear Mr. G,
ReplyDeleteEdutyping is a great program to learn how to type correctly. I find it very useful and convenient because it is easy to use while at home. One thing that i don't like is that they are very long but other than that thank you for the great program.
-Julia Martino
